The Town Pump Tavern is one of our absolute favorite spots to get a good stiff drink, with one of the most diverse crowds that you will ever see anywhere in Detroit. The after work crowd is here, both blue collar and white collar... the college crowd is here, but a bit more refined and sophisticated than the typical... and of course the grown and sexy are out in full force, especially on the weekends! Whether you're looking to spend a night out on the town with your friends, with your signifcant other, or perhaps to meet someone new, this bar is the perfect place to do any of those. Centaur has made many top ten lists of upscale bars in Detroit, and for good reason! The things that brought us in the door were the five dollar martinis at happy hour and the delicious Spanish tapas specialties, but what kept us coming back time after time? The wonderful atmosphere, the cool crowds that gather here, and the amazing service that you receive from everyone who calls this their workplace. The drinks are always perfectly mixed, always strong and great tasting, and never watered down. This establishment made a big impression on us and we know it will make one on you too! Cliff Bell's is not only a fantastic restaurant and bar, it is also the best loved jazz venue in the entire city of Detroit. The atmosphere is just incredible here, with the establishment completely restored to its original art deco style, and you can come in and enjoy live jazz music almost every night of the week! The cocktails are fantastic here, truly old fashioned style just the way you love it, and the food is also amazing and really noteworthy. One of the most exciting establishments in Detroit has got to be Motor City Brewing Works & Winery. We just found out about this one recently, but they have actually been going strong since 1994, and we wish we had discovered it much sooner! The hand-crafted beers that you will find here will please your tastebuds and your soul. It's totally unfiltered and unpasteurized, which gives you the most natural beer drinking experience possible. The location is right in the middle of all the wonderful things that Detroit has to offer, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Science Center, the Center for Creative Studies, and Comerica Park, just to name a few. Foran's Grand Trunk Pub is truly one of our favorite places to relax with a good stiff drink when we are in Detroit. If you seek a truly authentic and deliciously retro Irish pub, this is it. It's located in the former Grand Trunk Rail Road's ticket station, and they have stuck with that theme unerringly. The architecture is the same as it was in the early part of the last century, and much work has gone into installing hardware and fixtures that evoke a feeling of that rich past. New and old mix to create a perfect whole. They feature Motor City Brewing Works beerhere, and plenty of delicious items from Eastern Market too.
